Hey there!
Welcome to the 32nd issue of Invested Learner! A weekly curation of content for those who always seek opportunities to grow and improve.
Special shoutout to the new subscribers from the NFG Universe๐ This newsletter was born out of the many online conversations Iโve had with Nikki and the rest of the community. Iโm even part of the How to YOLO Wisely online course!
This month proved that the pandemic is almost over. I only have less than 5 days when I can stay at home the whole day. Itโs packed with activities and of course, being stuck in awful traffic.
Itโs like all the generosity and reunions that needed to be done in 11 months were packed and rushed within a month. It makes me wonder what if we spread out meeting with friends and showing appreciation for others throughout the year?
Even if we only do it once a week, thatโs 52 times compared to the 31 days December has. ๐
One of the options for helping out is to practice effective altruism:
This means that by thinking carefully about the best ways to help, we can do far more to tackle the worldโs biggest problems.
This weekโs other brain fertilizers:
๐ The World Cup of Microsoft Excel | Jacob Stern | โฑ 5 mins
This brings the skill to a new level and I imagine other e-games emerging like this.
๐ท Labeling Yourself is Keeping You Down, Do This Instead | Nir Eyal | โฑ 3 mins
A parenting principle I try to imbibe is to not label my children as good, bad, smart, etc. Instead, I try to point out their behavior.
As grown-ups, we tend to subconsciously label ourselves depending on personality tests, zodiac signs, or even our branding. We need to reprogram ourselves to avoid limiting what weโre capable of doing.
โ๏ธ Creating a Decision Journal | Shane Parrish | โฑ 6 mins
Having this type of journal can help us observe our thinking process when choosing where we want to go next.
โtil next week!
